DESCRIPTION:This is the first time Nguyen Tat Thanh University has participated in the international playground of Open Educational Resources. Open Education Week (OE Week) is an opportunity for actively sharing and learning about the latest achievements in Open Education worldwide\, taking place annually in March. \nIn response to the spirit of learning and sharing\, the “InnoShare – Exploring Multidisciplinary Creativity & Sharing Open Educational Resources” competition is organized for students. Here in Ideas as Sharing\, ideas\, solutions\, approaches\, new methods\, technologies\, etc. will be explored\, created\, and shared on the Open Educational Resources Commons (OER Commons) platform. The products will be registered with an CC license or Public Domain/CC0 (free of known copyright restrictions); the authors are attributed as copyright holders and choose the licenses for their products. \nThe competition aims to: \n– Spread the value of sharing ideas and knowledge as a means to create new learning opportunities and breakthroughs.\n– Understand open licenses and Public Domain and how to attribute through licensing tools.\n– Promote innovative creativity from various fields and professions. \nThe products will be publicly showcased on the OER Commons platform and will be voted on to receive awards \nDuration: February 28\, 2024 – March 29\, 2024. \n \nĐây là lần đầu tiên Trường Đại học Nguyễn Tất Thành tham gia vào sân chơi quốc tế về Tài nguyên Giáo dục mở. DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the TU Delft annual We Like Sharing photo competition a bit of idea brainstorming happened in OEG Connect as a call for other individuals\, organizations to remix the idea and run their own version of it. Hence we are doing it here at OEGlobal. \nOur call for photos is: \nFor We Like Sharing @ OEGlobal we invite anyone to share a photograph that communicates a visual metaphor for the potential\, benefits\, characteristics of openly sharing. We seek especially photos from all parts of the world that convey something special about that place. \nIf you would like to participate\, Then\, upload the image and provide the basic information in our We Like Sharing form including title\, location\, how to credit yourself\, a description for web accessibility\, and the Creative Commons license you wish to apply to your photo. \nWe will add them to the We Like Sharing @ OEGlobal flickr album\, with all attribution\, licensing information included. There may or may not be prizes\, but we certainly will be reusing and attribution images in future OEGlobal communications. The theme for this year is Culture and Heritage in a bid to make ourselves aware and share diverse cultures\, traditions and heritage. \nThere are few competitions : a) “Stories of Fabric” where participant have to share a photo and the story of fabric they possess that signifies their heritage. They also have to write a personal note about a specific memory that makes it special. b) There are indigenous traditions related to fabrics that form part of our lives and are possibly dying out. There will be workshops related to these topics and their pedagogic use through the OE WEEK. The workshop sessions and competitions will be available via Google Classroom

DESCRIPTION:There is a widespread consensus that open education encompasses both Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Educational Practices (OEP)\, with the understanding that sharing learning is crucial. According to the Cape Town Open Education Declaration (2007) “…open education movement combines the established tradition of sharing good ideas with fellow educators and the collaborative\, interactive culture of the Internet. It is built on the belief that everyone should be free to use\, customize\, improve and redistribute educational resources without constraint.”. \nTo realise these freedoms\, we must consider open educational practices from a social justice perspective. Questions arise: \n\nCan open education promote inclusivity and diversity?\nWhat guidance does Open Education offer our higher education community?\nAnd what impact does adopting Open Educational Practices have on student learning experiences and teaching practices?\n\nTo address these questions and delve into deeper discussion\, we will kick off UTS 2024 Open Education Week with a panel discussion event to shed light on Fostering inclusive education through Open Educational Practices. On this panel\, we welcome Associate Professor Glenda Cox\, UNESCO Chair on Open Education and Social Justice\, University of Cape Town (South Africa) and Yasser Tamer\, The American University in Cairo (Egypt). Glenda and Yasser will share their insights and experiences to address this topic.

SUMMARY:University of Edinburgh OER Service: Open Textbook Interview Series
DESCRIPTION:The University of Edinburgh has a long-standing commitment to providing and widening access to high quality online learning opportunities through open education and open educational resources (OER). This is supported by an OER Service and underpinned by our Open Educational Resources Policy that encourages staff and students to use\, create and publish open licensed resources to enhance the quality of the student experience.  \nThis year we’re celebrating Open Education Week by publishing a series of interviews with staff and students across the University who have created and published open textbooks. Open textbooks are books that have been made accessible online free of cost and are also openly licensed to allow free modifications\, use\, and sharing.​ \nOpen textbooks have long been the common form of open educational resources in North America\, with funding to support this activity\, however to date\, they have not seen extensive uptake in the UK\, where there are different models of textbook use and engagement with OER tends to be supported by learning technologists rather than dedicated OER librarians.​ There has been renewed interest in open textbooks in the UK over the past five year as institutions face rapidly increasing e-textbook costs as they move away from print materials in response to the pivot to online learning triggered by the COVID pandemic\, and longer-term trends in academic publishing. \nIn our series we speak to open textbook creators across the University of Edinburgh and hear why they decided to go down the open textbook path and what that journey has looked like. We’ll be publishing one interview each day throughout Open Education Week\, but in the meantime here’s a wee introduction to each of our interviewees: \nRebecca Wojturska\, the Open Access publishing officer\, responsible for managing Edinburgh Diamond. Edinburgh Diamond offers free publishing services to support books\, journals and conference proceedings created or led by University of Edinburgh academics\, staff and students. \nDr Jill Mackay\, Senior Lecturer (Veterinary Medical Education) at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies\, with a focus on interdisciplinary research methodology. Dr Mackay is a proponent of open science\, and particularly exploring how education research can adopt open science practices. She has created and published multiple OER\, including the open textbook R@R(D)SVS designed to help staff and students get to grips with with R programming. \nDr Peter Bankhead\, Reader in the Institute of Genetics and Cancer at The University of Edinburgh. Creator of digital imaging open-source software\, QuPath\, which has been downloaded close to half a million times\, cited in about 3\,000 academic articles\, and is used all over the world\, both in academia and industry. Dr Bankhead has published his open textbook Introduction to Bioimage Analysis using GitHub and Jupiter Books. \nDr Nikki Moran\, Senior Lecturer in Music at the ECA. Niki is lead author and presenter of the University of Edinburgh’s Coursera MOOC (Massive Open Online Course)\, Fundamentals of Music Theory\, engaging 300000 active learners and recruiting around 500 new students per week. Fundamentals of Music Theory was the first open e-textbook published on Edinburgh Diamond as part of a pilot project in collaboration with the OER Service. \nMayu Ishimoto is an Architectural History and Heritage student who worked as an Open Content Curator intern with the OER Service over the summer of 2023. Mayu now works one day a week as an intern with the OER Service\, and published the open textbook Birds of Midlothian as one of her summer projects.

DESCRIPTION:En aquesta activitat 3 professors de diferents departament de la UAB presentaran 3 projectes que tenen en comú la seva implicació amb la innovació a l’aula i el seu compromís amb l’educació oberta. \nEls projectes són els següents: \nDe l’aula a la taula de joc: construint coneixement compartit a través del projecte PhyloGenome \nDescripció: PhyloGenome és un projecte d’innovació docent que fusiona l’aprenentatge de la genòmica amb la dinàmica d’un joc de cartes col·leccionables. A llarg del curs\, l’alumnat treballa en la seqüenciació\, assemblatge i anotació d’un genoma d’una espècie eucariota del seu interès\, en paral·lel amb l’evolució de les altres activitats de l’assignatura. Al final\, creen una carta que destaca la informació més rellevant del genoma que han investigat. El disseny de la carta i la dinàmica principal del joc es basen en el joc de cartes PhyloGame\, de proveïment participatiu i accés obert. També és possible jugar seguint les dinàmiques dels jocs Nature Challenge i Timeline\, convertint PhyloGenome en tres jocs en un. PhyloGenome té una pàgina web pròpia (phylogenome.omicsuab.org) on es poden descarregar totes les cartes i materials relacionats. A més\, al través del mateix web la comunitat educativa pot contribuir amb noves cartes\, fent de PhyloGenome un projecte cooperatiu i internacional en constant creixement. Tots els materials es distribueixen sota una llicència Creative Commons CC-BY-NC-SA. SUMMARY:OE Week Live! Special Session on AI Language Translation (of AI for Teachers)
DESCRIPTION:One of the key opportunities for open content (and fast moving developments) is the use of AI is for language translation– potentially of great value for increasing access. How is it faring in practice? Is it viable for enough of thew world’s languages? How does one manage / implement a language translation project? \nThis special session came organically from a discussion in OEG Connect. And ironically or perhaps appropriately\, the content it arose from is the new AI For Teachers open textbook by Colin de la Higuera and Jotsna Iyer made available initially in English\, French\, German\, Slovenian\, and Italian. \nWithin that discussion came word of interest from Sushumna Rao to translate this into Telugu leading to further email conversation between Colin and Sushumna\, all of which seemed appropriate for an open conversation like we do for the OE Week Live webcasts. DESCRIPTION:In this online session\, we talk about the implications of (Generative) Artificial Intelligence for Open Educational Resources with a focus on the Higher Education sector. \nAs part of the project “KI-NEL-23-NRW“\, which is funded by the German Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education\, the state portal ORCA.nrw is organising various offers (e.g. information events\, workshops\, short videos\,) on the intersections of OER & (Generative) Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education until the end of March 2024. \nIn a short presentation\, we will give insights into the project and talk\, for example\, about the potential of Generative AI for OER or the associated challenges. \nFollowing the presentation\, we invite all participants to report on their own experiences\, describe the situation at their own institution or in their own country and contribute to the discussion. \nIn dieser Online-Session geht es um die Implikationen (Generativer) Künstlicher Intelligenz für Open Educational Resources mit Schwerpunkt auf dem Hochschulbereich. \nIm Rahmen des Projektes „KI-NEL-23-NRW“\, das von der Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschullehre gefördert wird\, organisiert das Landesportal ORCA.nrw im Zeitraum bis Ende März 2024 verschiedene Angebote (z.B.
