SUMMARY:Webinar on Developing Interactive Open Textbooks for Indian School Education
DESCRIPTION:Open textbooks\, a subset of open educational resources (OER) are digitally structured open textbooks\, released in adaptable and shareable formats\, with a Creative Commons  (CC) license. Open textbooks enable teachers to develop and update textbooks in alignment with their curricular needs and to improve students access to quality learning content. Pressbooks\, a WordPress-based open textbooks platform enables teachers to develop open textbooks by adapting OER / open textbooks content; embedding media\, interactive content\, simulations and self-assessment questions to ascertain student mastery over the concept.\n\nOn the eve of Open Education Week – March 4-8\, 2024\, KBR & HL Human Development Foundation and MIER College of Education\, Jammu are jointly organizing a Webinar on Developing Interactive Open Textbooks (using Pressbooks) for Indian School Education. This webinar introduces OER and open textbooks and demonstrates how to develop OER-enabled interactive open textbooks.\nTarget audience: Indian Teacher Educators\nLearning outcomes\nThis webinar will enable the participants to: \n\ngain an understanding of Creative Commons Licenses and Open Educational Resources\nfind adaptable / remixable OER (demo)\ndevelop OER-enabled interactive open textbooks for Indian School Education using Pressbooks (demo)

DESCRIPTION:The Digital Research Alliance of Canada’s National Training Expert Group is excited to invite you to join us for an upcoming panel discussion entitled “Introduction to OERs in RDM.” The webinar will take place on March 7 at 1pm ET. Please register in advance using this link: https://engagedri-ca.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_VdN18hNhRjarTjk0CZ9glw#/re…\n\n\n  \nThis webinar is the first in the “Open Educational Resources in RDM Webinar Series” that will highlight several Research Data Management-focused Open Educational Resources (OERs) that have been developed in Canada. The series will also explore diverse topics around OERs\, such as how they can be created\, used\, re-mixed\, translated into multiple languages\, and licensed.\n\n\nThe “Introduction to OERs in RDM” session will introduce the series and the concept of OERs\, highlight three Canadian-made OERs that will be showcased in greater detail in future sessions\, and facilitate a discussion around OERs generally and their uses. The panelists will be:\n\n\n\nRobyn Stobbs (Athabasca University): “Athabasca RDM Microcourse <https://powered.athabascau.ca/product?catalog=Research-Data-Management>”\n\n\nEugene Barsky (University of British Columbia): “UBC Library Research Commons Open Educational Resource (OER) <https://ubc-library-rc.github.io/rdm/>”\n\n\nEmily Carlisle-Johnson (Western University): “Research Data Management in the Canadian Context: A Guide for Practitioners and Learners <https://ecampusontario.pressbooks.pub/canadardm/>”\n\n\nThe webinar will be moderated by Jen Abel and Nick Rochlin\, Co-Chairs of the National Training Expert Group. \nWe look forward to seeing you there!

SUMMARY:Finding and Using OER
DESCRIPTION:One of the biggest barriers to OER adoption and use is finding the right resource. In this session\, we will look at some McMaster-specific resources that will help you in your search (including McMaster’s OER by Discipline Guide version 2.0)\, explore some OER repositories\, and consider some strategies to fine tune your results. We will also look at how you can evaluate the OER you’ve found for possible inclusion in your teaching.

SUMMARY:Open Educational Resources and Universal Design for Learning: Complementary Practices Supporting Student Success
DESCRIPTION:Open educational resources (OER) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) complement each other well to further accessible learning opportunities and support students’ success. In this webinar\, we will explore concepts like the social model of disability and how the UDL principle of “multiple means of representation” can be applied in the design of OER through things like multiple formats\, interactivity\, multimedia\, and good learning design and structure. This session will include lots of concrete examples to explore. \nJosie Gray  (she/her) is the manager of production and publishing at BCcampus. She manages the B.C. Open Collection and provides training and support for B.C. faculty publishing open textbooks in Pressbooks. Josie has been learning about and teaching accessibility best practices in OER since 2016 and has a Masters of Design in Inclusive Design.   Check out the event website for details.
