SUMMARY:Data Reuse Days 2025 (WikiData)
DESCRIPTION:The Data Reuse Days 2025 is an online event focusing on how people and organizations use Wikidata’s data to build interesting applications and tools. It aims to bring together data reusers and editors to learn from each other and discover cool Wikidata-powered applications. We will also cover technical aspects of Wikidata and share research and ideas for the future of reusing Wikidata’s data. \nThe event is taking place online\, we will have sessions taking place during periods of 2 hours through 8 days: from February 18 to 27\, 2025. Find the schedule below on this page. The sessions take place in English\, and are open to everyone interested in the topic of data reuse. You have 3 options to watch the sessions: \n\nAttend live in the Jitsi room: you’ll be able to interact with the speakers and other participants. The unique Jitsi link will be added to the Event details shortly before the event\, and visible to people who have registered. Note: if you join the Jitsi room\, please be aware that we will be recording the call and broadcasting it live on Youtube.\nWatch the livestream of the sessions on Youtube: great option if your connection or device doesn’t allow Jitsi\, or if you don’t want to appear on the videos. The links will be added in the table below for each session shortly before the event.\nWatch the replay videos later on Youtube or Wikimedia Commons: to catch up in case you missed the live transmission\, The links will be added in the table below for each session

SUMMARY:Introduction to Using Pressbooks
DESCRIPTION:Pressbooks is an online platform for creating books (and other book-like learning materials)\, including open educational resources (OER). It enables authors and publishers to design\, format\, and share their books in several ways\, including in web-based and digital/ebook formats\, or as print-ready PDFs. Pressbooks is used by independent authors and educational institutions around the world. In this hands-on webinar\, you will learn how to use Pressbooks to create\, build\, and adapt online books and OER. We will cover the basics of structuring your book\, adding and formatting content\, and briefly look at some ways you can enhance your book with embedded media (like images\, video\, and interactive H5P activities). \nIf you do not already have a USask Pressbooks account\, one will be provided for you\, along with a “sandbox” book that you can explore during the session and continue building with later.

SUMMARY:LibreTexts Remixing Made Easy: Supporting Faculty in Creating OER Without the Tech Overwhelm
DESCRIPTION:Remixing an OER textbook can feel daunting – especially when faced with new platforms and tools. In this session\, Cosumnes River College shares practices to utilize support staff to streamline the LibreTexts remixing process. This approach allows faculty to focus on fine-tuning content rather than learning a new interface.

SUMMARY:Beyond Mandates: Fostering a Culture of Open Access Book Publishing
DESCRIPTION:Attempts to incentivise open access for books have\, to date\, largely centred around policy interventions that mandate publication in open formats and venues. Today we have OA book policies from funders in the UK\, Netherlands\, Austria\, Norway\, Ireland\, and Portugal; and the Council of the EU has said that for publicly funded research\, open access should be “the norm” for monographs as well as articles. \nBut the big stick of mandates can be a blunt instrument and very often add a heavy compliance burden on scholars and HE institutions. A more effective and lasting avenue to OA for books might be to embed open research and publishing cultures within universities and more widely. But currently\, HEIs often incentivise closed access publishing (deliberately or passively) by cleaving to the status quo in terms of recognising career advancement and in terms of publishing venues and how those venues are supported. How might this paradigm be shifted towards openness? \nThis session will feature short presentations from expert scholars\, librarians and publishers\, followed by a panel discussion and audience Q&A. We will address these central questions: how can we incentivise researchers to publish their books OA? How can institutions signal more strongly that publishing openly should be important\, and reward those who do so? How might a culture of open research be fostered within and beyond the book publishing process? \nChanging the way the sector approaches reward and recognition for scholars could be a big driver for change in open access book publishing – going beyond mandates to offer positive reasons to embrace openness. \nJoin us for this online event\, presented in partnership by Copim and the Knowledge Equity Network. Featuring contributions from guest speakers\, Lucy Barnes (Senior Editor and Outreach Coordinator\, Open Book Publishers)\, Gavin Beattie (Associate Director: Research & Impact\, Libraries & Collections\, King’s College London)\, Jill Claassen (Section Manager\, Scholarly Communication & Research\, University of Cape Town)\, Kevin Sanders (Open Access Engagement Lead\, Open Book Collective) and Chaired by Sally Dalton (Head of Library Research Services: Open Research\, University of Leeds).

SUMMARY:Tricky CC License Questions Call in Show (OEWeek Live)
DESCRIPTION:This is a special themed topic OEWeek Live for Open Education Week 2025 featuring a team of Creative Commons Experts\, facilitators of the Creative Commons Certificate program. \nYes choosing a license from the list is one thing\, but there are always complexities that arise in practice. We’ve asked our panel to come with a few “tricky” questions but we want to also give the audience a chance to pose theirs. As always\, we are not offering legal advice (we will here “IAmNotALawyer”) but a great opportunity to hear our guests describe their approach to answering CC questions. \nGuests confirmed so far include: \n\nShanna Hollich (Creative Commons)\nJonathan Poritz (Independent consultant\, and CC Certificate facilitator)\nJennifer Hughes (CC Certificate facilitator)\nJennifer Campbell (CC Certificate facilitator)\nSuzanne Wakim (CC Certificate facilitator)\n\nWatch live where we we invite tricky CC questions and comments from the audience sent through the chat. Or submit them ahead of time via the call-in web form https://forms.gle/MFK1b8Hm2bBGvc4B7 or watch the recording later: \n\nLearn More: \n\nOpen Education Week https://oeweek.oeglobal.org/\nCC Certificate Program\, https://certificates.creativecommons.org/ \nOE Week Live Schedule https://connect.oeglobal.org/t/oeweek-live-webcasts/7383\nCopyright First Responders Pacific Northwest https://copyrightfirstresponderspnw.org/\n\nFeatured Image: Composite image including Old TV – Time Tunnel – Cameron Highland flickr photo by liewcf shared under a Creative Commons (BY-SA) license with Open Education 2025 Week banner by  Mario Badilla at OEGlobal and shared under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
