SUMMARY:Techno-Pedagogical Design of Open Educational Resources
DESCRIPTION:Digital solutions play a key role for enabling blended learning in higher education\, where the acquisition and the appropriation of core competences and transversal skills require engaging learning experience and value-adding interactive resources. Hence\, it is essential to help educators in the process of designing and implementing digital resources\, considering both their pedagogical and their technological dimensions\, as well as the generative AI trend. In this talk\, we will discuss adaptation of learning scenarios and the design of rich and intelligent open educational resources to strengthen the transversal skills required by the current sustainability and digital literacy challenges \nSpeaker: Dr. Denis Gillet (EPFL)\, Head Interactions Systems Group

SUMMARY:DEFA Cameroun: Digital Education For All - Les REL pour tous

SUMMARY:Getting Started with OER
DESCRIPTION:You’ve likely heard about OER and how it can save students money. But did you also know that OER can increase student engagement and retention? The 2022 Florida Student Survey found that 53% of the 13\,000 students they surveyed did not purchase a required textbook for a course due to its cost. Because of textbook costs\, forty-three percent of students in the survey took fewer courses\, and twenty-four percent of students surveyed reported dropping out of a course (Florida Virtual Campus 2022). \nThe New Mexico Open Educational Resources Consortium\, or the NMOER Consortium\, is holding three workshops this fall to help NM educators find free\, open\, high-quality resources to use in their classes. \nThis workshop will also cover the different ways educators can integrate these resources into their courses. All New Mexico educators\, students\, staff\, and administrators are invited to learn about how to get started with OER. \nPresented by Jennifer Jordan\, Principal Investigator\, NMOER; OER Librarian and Assistant Professor\, UNM

SUMMARY:Invited Talk: “Designing AI-Supported OER: Creation\, Scale\, and Responsible Use” TAMU
DESCRIPTION:Generative artificial intelligence is increasingly being used to support the creation\, revision\, and scaling of open educational resources (OER). As institutions adopt AI to accelerate open textbook development and reduce reliance on commercial publisher materials\, there is a growing need for clear structures that ensure quality\, accessibility\, and institutional accountability. Without intentional guardrails\, AI-assisted OER creation can introduce uncertainty around authorship\, licensing\, accuracy\, and long-term sustainability. \nSpeaker: Joshua Hill\, Hillsborough College\, Tampa FL \nPlease register online

SUMMARY:Designing With\, Not Around\, Disabled Learners: A Screen-Reader Demo Experience
DESCRIPTION:This session from Equity Unbound will demonstrate why screen-reader access is important when designing learning materials\, especially Open Educational Resources. Have you ever wanted to know how people who are visually impaired or totally blind access your content? Come to this session and I\, a visually impaired screen-reader user and an accessibility expert myself\, will demonstrate for you the experience of a blind person navigating websites and digital materials. \nWe will begin with a TRIZ Liberating Structures activity in which participants will intentionally design the worst possible experience for someone using a screen reader. As we name common mistakes and exclusionary practices first\, we will surface the barriers that disabled users encounter every day. \nThrough screen-reader demonstrations on JAWS\, NVDA\, and Voiceover\, participants will experience how everyday design choices shape who can participate fully in learning spaces and who is required to work harder to feel “included” because the design was not made accessible from the beginning. Participants will see concrete examples of inaccessible practices\, such as poorly structured documents\, missing alt text\, cluttered layouts\, and excessive emoji use\, and how these choices interfere with learning and participation. \nThe session will connect these examples to the four principles of accessibility: perceivable\, operable\, user-friendly\, and real. We will also discuss reasonable accommodations and why accessibility must be built into course design rather than added later. Throughout the session\, participants will be invited to reflect\, ask questions\, and rethink their own materials. By the end\, they will leave with practical strategies for creating learning spaces that are genuinely inclusive for screen reader users. \nRecording Now Available\n\nSee also the presentation slides  and an anonymized chat log from this session

SUMMARY:K-12 Studio Demo: An OER Repository for French K-12 Teachers
DESCRIPTION:In this demo\, we will showcase our brand new OER platform for French as a second language teachers at K-12 levels (K-12 Studio) built by Learnful Labs Inc. \nThe overarching goal of K-12 Studio is to offer FSL teachers in Ontario and beyond a trusted\, well-organized space where they can safely share\, adapt\, and create curriculum or general subjects-aligned resources\, while benefiting from peer exchange\, professional recognition\, and pedagogical support. By streamlining collaboration\, the initiative aims to reduce duplication of effort\, lightens workload pressures\, supports well-being\, and strengthens teacher retention across Ontario. \nOur platform features a novelty : an AI-assisted resource submission form. This will help teachers save time and still ensure discoverability of their resources. \nThis project is funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage and the Ontario Ministry of Education.
