SUMMARY:The Magazine Cover Story: LibreTexts Engages Students’ Interests and Insights through Snippets and Snapshots
DESCRIPTION:This session is both a presentation and a discussion of how instructors and students engage with LibreTexts Open Educational Resources (OER) through a creative semester-long assignment. The three co-presenters — one professor and her students — share their perspectives on the use of LibreTexts as a foundation for a project in two different courses: interpersonal communication and intercultural communication.\n\nPresenter: Dr. Armeda C. Reitzel\, Professor\, Communication\nPresenter: Ms. Julia Kurtz\, Undergraduate Student\, Communication\nPresenter: Josué Valdez\, Undergraduate Student\, Communication\n\nDr. Reitzel is Professor of Communication who is a true believer in the creation and use of LibreTexts.\n\nJulia Kurtz is a third year at Cal Poly Humboldt majoring in communications. She is passionate about creating channels for people of all backgrounds to share knowledge and their stories to better connect us as humans.\n\nJosué Valdez is a recovering poet and communications major at Cal Poly Humboldt with an interest in examining the ways we interpret messages.\n\nYou can watch a recording of this presentation on the LibreTexts YouTube channel.

SUMMARY:EPALE Akademie: Future Skills – Agiles Arbeiten in der Erwachsenenbildung
DESCRIPTION:Vom 7.-28. Workshop-Termin | Donnerstag\, 08.03.2024 | 10:00 – 14:00 Uhr\n Begleitete Selbstlernphase: 09.03.-27.03.2024\n2. Workshop-Termin | Donnerstag\, 28.03.2024 | 10:00 – 14:00 Uhr\n\nDie gesamte Akademie wird Online über Webex stattfinden.

SUMMARY:Students as Knowledge Co-Creators in Clinical & Experiential Learning - The Role of Open Learning
DESCRIPTION:This conversation between graduating Windsor Law student Asvini Kulanayagam\, Professor Gemma Smyth and moderator Professor Dave Cormier will explore how students can play an instrumental role in co-creating knowledge for other students in professional\, work-integrated and experiential contexts. In clinical and experiential programs\, sources of knowledge are expanded to include community\, clients and colleagues. How can clinical and experiential programs integrate the experiential knowledge students gain in practice? Open learning provides a flexible\, integrative way to encourage co-learning and knowledge sharing within a research-informed context.

SUMMARY:Open for Antiracism: Leveraging Open Education to Support Antiracism in the Classroom
DESCRIPTION:In this 45-minute panel discussion\, we address the question: “How can the open education field engage effectively with antiracist pedagogy?” Co-lead by co-led by CCCOER and College of the Canyons\, Open for Antiracism Program (OFAR) provides an answer. \nOFAR supports US community college faculty to transform their classrooms to be antiracist through the affordances of OER and open pedagogy. Now in its fourth year\, OFAR has supported 150 instructors from 40 institutions to learn to adapt and author OER\, integrating antiracist activities and perspectives and co-creating materials with their students. \nTwo propositions inform the design of OFAR: \n\nAcademics wish to change their classroom practices to be antiracist and need guidance on promising practices and a safe place to explore with peers;\nOER and open pedagogy can be effective tools to transform classrooms to be antiracist.\n\nProgram participants learn about antiracist pedagogy\, OER\, and open pedagogy. Participants then implement a change to their teaching by integrating OER or open pedagogy to make their class antiracist. Participants receive on-going support through webinars\, coaching\, and OER support. \nIn this session\, attendees will learn about program design\, successes\, and challenges\, including results from three years of research on faculty perceptions and student outcomes. \nThe audience will be invited to share how they can apply this work in their own context to improve student success for marginalized and underserved students. \nPanelists: \n\nJames Glapa-Grossklag\, Co-Director\, Open for Antiracism\, Dean\, Educational Technology\, Learning Resources and Distance Learning\, College of the Canyons\nLaura Dunn\, Co-Director\, Open for Antiracism\, Director of Assessment and Writing Programs\, Santa Clara University\nGayathri Manikandan\, Professor Mathematics\, Math Instructional Specialist\, Student Success Center\, PD Liaison\, STEM Guided Pathway\, Compton College
