SUMMARY:From Textbook to Homework: A Collaborative Journey in Developing Our Spanish OER Projects with LibreTexts
DESCRIPTION:In this presentation\, four instructors from California community colleges will discuss their transition from traditional commercial textbook bundles to Open Educational Resources (OER) and innovative homework solutions in Spanish language instruction. They will focus on three collaborative projects supported by the Academic Senate of California Community Colleges Open Educational Resources Initiative (ASCCC OERI) and LibreTexts: Entrada Libre (2020)\, Tarea Libre (2022)\, and Tarea Libre 2 (expected summer 2024). Attendees will learn about the collaborative process\, from conception to implementation\, and the challenges faced during the development of the materials.\n\nThe speakers will share valuable insights into OER development and offer actionable takeaways. The presentation aims to renew enthusiasm for reshaping the future of Spanish language education through innovative solutions. Emphasis will be placed on the creation of open and accessible resources that align with the ASCCC OERI IDEA framework of inclusion\, diversity\, equity\, anti-racism\, and accessibility.\n\nYou can watch a recording of this presentation on the LibreTexts YouTube channel.

SUMMARY:Open Educational Resources and Universal Design for Learning: Complementary Practices Supporting Student Success
DESCRIPTION:Open educational resources (OER) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) complement each other well to further accessible learning opportunities and support students’ success. In this webinar\, we will explore concepts like the social model of disability and how the UDL principle of “multiple means of representation” can be applied in the design of OER through things like multiple formats\, interactivity\, multimedia\, and good learning design and structure. This session will include lots of concrete examples to explore. \nJosie Gray  (she/her) is the manager of production and publishing at BCcampus. She manages the B.C. Open Collection and provides training and support for B.C. faculty publishing open textbooks in Pressbooks. Josie has been learning about and teaching accessibility best practices in OER since 2016 and has a Masters of Design in Inclusive Design.   Check out the event website for details.

SUMMARY:In Your Likeness: The Anatomy Video and Imagery Diversity (AVID) project- presented by Dave Andrews
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the Anatomy Video and Imagery Diversity (AVID) project is to create anatomical illustrations and short instructional videos that depict the diversity of humans\, including people of different ages\, sexes\, body compositions\, skin tones\, hair colours and styles. People with amputations\, prosthetics\, tattoos and piercings are also portrayed in the images that have been produced to date. \nThis joint initiative between the University of Windsor and the University of Calgary engages medical illustrators and students\, many of whom are from equity-deserving groups\, to create the images and videos. These products are stored in an open digital repository that can be accessed by anyone worldwide for teaching and other non-commercial purposes. \nThis presentation will provide an overview of the AVID project\, illustrate how it will help students see their likeness in the material they are learning\, and introduce the digital repository and samples of the content currently available within it.

SUMMARY:Converting Your Math Classes to OER With LibreTexts
DESCRIPTION:Over a period of three semesters\, the Mathematics department at Cosumnes River College transformed their entire STEM pathway to OER materials and textbooks using the LibreTexts platform. At this point\, a student can earn an A.S. in Mathematics at CRC without paying anything for course materials (at least in the mathematics classes). Additionally\, this transition to OER allowed several other STEM programs to offer fully ZTC degrees. In this talk\, mathematics professor Roy Simpson\, who transitioned six of the courses\, will speak about his experiences with the process and provide some recommendations on how to speed up the transition process. \nYou can watch a recording of this presentation on the LibreTexts YouTube channel.

SUMMARY:EPALE Akademie: Future Skills – Agiles Arbeiten in der Erwachsenenbildung
DESCRIPTION:Vom 7.-28. Workshop-Termin | Donnerstag\, 08.03.2024 | 10:00 – 14:00 Uhr\n Begleitete Selbstlernphase: 09.03.-27.03.2024\n2. Workshop-Termin | Donnerstag\, 28.03.2024 | 10:00 – 14:00 Uhr\n\nDie gesamte Akademie wird Online über Webex stattfinden.

SUMMARY:Students as Knowledge Co-Creators in Clinical & Experiential Learning - The Role of Open Learning
DESCRIPTION:This conversation between graduating Windsor Law student Asvini Kulanayagam\, Professor Gemma Smyth and moderator Professor Dave Cormier will explore how students can play an instrumental role in co-creating knowledge for other students in professional\, work-integrated and experiential contexts. In clinical and experiential programs\, sources of knowledge are expanded to include community\, clients and colleagues. How can clinical and experiential programs integrate the experiential knowledge students gain in practice? Open learning provides a flexible\, integrative way to encourage co-learning and knowledge sharing within a research-informed context.
