SUMMARY:Teachers Talk… Generative AI for Educators: An Open Overview- presented by Bonnie Stewart\, David Lyu\, Tracy Mcallister\, and Mark Lubrick
DESCRIPTION:With the explosion of different AI tools\, it is more important than ever to consider their limitations and the cost of using them\, especially in education. This presentation will serve as the launch of an open video with students and faculty discussing AI and how it can be incorporated responsibly into teaching and learning. This was a collaborative project involving partnership between faculty\, students\, and multimedia developers and we will outline the development process\, including what worked and what challenges we faced.

SUMMARY:In the OEG Voices Podcast Studio with Maha Bali
DESCRIPTION:As we have done the past few years during Open Education Week\, we “open” the OEG Voices podcast recording studio so you can listen in and participate in the conversations. By being there live you can hear the podcast before we produce it! \nJoin us in the OEG Voices studio Wednesday March 6 when we are fortunate to welcome Maha Bali\, professor of practice at the Center for Learning and Teaching at The American University in Cairo (AUC). Maha was recognized in 2023 with an Individual OE Award For Excellence in the Educator category. \nThe podcast will be recorded in Zoom (cameras never required) and space in the studio is open for those who register to secure a seat \nIn this conversation with Maha we plan to ask about her approaches and philosophy as an open educator with her students at AUC (and beyond)\, with the faculty she supports (globally)\, and honestly\, the world in general. Very likely we will discuss her current practices and insights on critical AI literacy. \nBut you never know where an interesting conversation will go\, perhaps we can talk about the braveness of being bad at crochet. \nWe are counting on lively conversation and you can be part of the action\, even just to listen in by signing up to be in the studio or wait until it appears at https://voices.oeglobal.org/

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a two-day showcase of the OER Rangers program. As part of a train-the-trainer approach to Open Education\, the Open Library has convened four panels where our 2023 cohort of Open Education Rangers will share their insights on a multitude of topics. Having spent the year working to raise awareness\, build capacity and advocate for Open education at their institutions\, the showcase will be an opportunity to learn from the experts. Attendees will have a chance to ask questions and learn about varying facets of open education. \nFor the fourth of four panels\, Rangers discuss the use of Indigenous knowledge in OER\, reflecting on their learning journey and the impact of including Indigenous perspectives in education.

SUMMARY:Finding and Remixing Great OER with Pressbooks Directory
DESCRIPTION:One of the key advantages of Open Education is the ability to reuse and adapt existing content. Luckily\, this also addresses some of its biggest challenges: time to create\, localization\, and visibility. However\, navigating through the vast sea of open educational resources can be overwhelming. \nJoin us for this quick 30 minute session about the Pressbooks Directory – a free\, open-to-everyone repository of over 6\,000 resources across 170+ institution covering a wide range of subjects. With many of these resources being openly licensed and all of them being entirely free to read\, you can find your perfect resource to either share or adapt for your educational needs. \nWe’ll walk you through how to use the Pressbooks Directory to 1) find the content you want to reuse or take inspiration from\, 2) reuse and adapt this content for specific classroom needs and 3) how you can add to this growing library.

SUMMARY:Updates on the U.S. Department of Education’s Negotiated Rulemaking for Automatic Billing (CCCOER)
DESCRIPTION:The U.S. Department of Education is considering the elimination of a provision that allows books and supplies to be charged as part of tuition and fees as a part of the negotiated rulemaking process. This would require higher education institutions to get student authorization for course material charges\, which would effectively make “Inclusive Access” and automatic textbook billing programs “opt-in” for students. Presenters will discuss the implications of this proposal and shed light on its potential impact on students\, institutions\, and open educational resources. Please bring your thoughts and questions! \nPresenters:\n\nNicole Allen\, Director of Open Education\, SPARC\nLiliana Diaz\, Senior Policy Analyst\, WICHE
