SUMMARY:convOERter: Ein Tool zur Konvertierung von Bildungsmaterialien mit Bildern in OER
DESCRIPTION:Für die Open Education Week @ Campus Luzern berichtet Lubna Ali\, Lehr- und Forschungsgebiet Informatik 9 – Lerntechnologien/ RWTH Aachen\, über der convOERter.

SUMMARY:ENOEL WS#5 Embrace the Open: Finding OER
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to invite you to the fifth event in our ENOEL Workshop series\, organised by SPARC Europe and the European Network of Open Education Librarians (ENOEL)\, on 7 March 2024 at 1-2:30 PM CET. One of our ways to celebrate Open Education Week 2024! \nThe workshop topic is “Embrace the Open: Finding OER”. Our workshop facilitators are Kathryn Briggs from Atlantic Technological University\, Galway (Ireland)\, and Evi Tramantza from American College of Thessaloniki\, Anatolia College\, Pylea\, Thessaloniki (Greece). \n  \nDuring this workshop\, you will recognise what type of open educational resources you can find online\, identify the relevant repositories and other sources\, apply effective search strategies\, explore more about existing finding aids and search tools and know where to go to get more help from the community. You will have a chance to share your experiences related to finding OER with other participants and ask questions. \nThe chat will be open for the audience to ask questions and engage in the discussion directly with our experts. \nAt the end of this workshop\, you will be able to: \n\nIdentify different types of OER and repositories;\nSearch for OER effectively\, specifying criteria and formats;\nLearn from and engage with the community;\nShare finding OER experiences\, highlighting what worked and what didn’t.\n\nPlease join us. Register using this link: https://tinyurl.com/ENOELWorkshop5  (fifty seats available) \nThis event is the fifth in the series of ENOEL Workshops. The previous webinar recordings are available in the ENOEL Workshops playlist on our @ENOELforOpen Youtube Channel. Slides\, workshop plans and other resources are openly available in the SPARC Europe Collection on Zenodo. \nStay tuned for more sessions coming in 2024. \nWe hope you can make it\, and we encourage you to share this with your colleagues!

SUMMARY:GenAI Role Related to OER – How Teaching and Learning Can Benefit From It
DESCRIPTION:GenAIs play a crucial role in Open Educational Resources (OER) by improving the accessibility\, equity\, inclusivity and effectiveness of teaching and learning materials. Through advanced natural language processing and personalised learning algorithms\, GenAIs can tailor content to the individual needs of learners\, promoting a more adaptive and engaging educational experience. In addition\, they contribute to the creation of high-quality OER by generating educational content\, assessments and interactive resources\, expanding the availability of diverse and innovative educational materials. Accordingly\, it is important to take the lead in the AI era. \nJoin us in this session organised in collaboration with ICDE\, OER Advocacy Committee and discuss with experts on the topic of GenAI\, OER and high-quality teaching and learning in the digital age.

SUMMARY:Open source and open education (online chat)
DESCRIPTION:Open source software is very effective in democratizing digital capabilities across a vast range of domains. As prime example\, Moodle is an open source eLearning platform that powers hundreds of thousands of learning environments globally (it provides also the basic infrastructure for the Open Risk Academy). Yet contributing to open source faces the formidable barrier of scarce technical (digital) literacy. How can we best use open source to teach about open source? Can we set in motion a virtuous cycle that will produce a reinforcing mechanism where people use open source tools to build more open source education tools? This is the topic of a free format online chat event. The event should be interesting for anybody thinking or working at the intersection of open source and open education irrespective of which domain they specialize in. We’ll try to make a number of different channels available\, as an Academy forum chat\, a matrix channel\, and github discussions. The scheduled time is 5:00pm-6:00pm (Europe/Amsterdam time) on the 7th of March 2024. Come and join the discussion!

SUMMARY:Open Publishing with Docsify-This: An Interactive Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in exploring the system-independent format of Markdown for online OER content without any website setup or build process? How about seamlessly embedding constraint-free Markdown/HTML into multiple platforms (e.g. LMS or CMS)? The open-source project Docsify-This.net (based on Docsify.js.org) provides an easy on-ramp to publishing\, sharing and reusing open Markdown content! \nWith Docsify-This you can instantly turn any publicly available Markdown file into a responsive standalone web page\, and multiple Markdown files can even be linked together to provide a simple website. The visual appearance of displayed pages can be altered by using the point-and-click Web Page Builder or URL parameters. When creating your own Markdown content you can also use a set of supported Markdown CSS classes. In addition\, if GitHub or Codeberg are used to store Markdown files an “Edit this Page” link can be automatically provided for each page to support collaborative authoring. \nThis 30-minute session is a chance to chat with the author of Docsify-This\, Paul Hibbitts\, see examples of Docsify-This at work\, and ask any questions you might have about the project and it’s possible uses.

SUMMARY:Openness as a pedagogy of abundance – Presented by Dave Cormier
DESCRIPTION:In 2011 Martin Weller made a call for a pedagogy of abundance. How do we help people learn in a world where we have too much information? How do we help people engage students in our classrooms when they are surrounded by so many distractions? And\, maybe more importantly\, how do we encourage students to do the work when they have so many options (I’m looking at you GenAI) to get around it? This presentation will argue that the solution is to open things up\, rather than to shut them down

SUMMARY:Open Badges\, Diplômes: quels liens avec l'Open Education?

SUMMARY:Do We Need a National Open Education Strategy? Results from our Community “Open” Conversations
DESCRIPTION:Open education has made remarkable progress\, yet the evolving landscape continues to present challenges. As open education work continues to grow at institutions\, in states\, and across regions\, questions increasingly surface about how we might coordinate and advocate more effectively as a field. This includes how to advance open education policies at the national and state level\, how to reach institutional leaders\, and how to expand sustainable funding. \nNCOER (a collaboration among the four regional education compacts)\, working together with DOERS3 and SPARC\, invited members of the open education field to join us for an open conversation about the potential need for U.S. national open education strategy and discuss how we might better collaborate to advance shared priorities. This built on a discussion started at the 2023 Open Education Conference. To include as many voices as possible\, there were three community sessions. All who are interested in open education were encouraged to participate. \nThis session will share the results from those conversations. Representatives from DOERS3\, NCOER\, and SPARC facilitated these conversations.
