SUMMARY:Creating Accessible OER and Course Materials: What Makes Content Accessible?
DESCRIPTION:Are you updating your course content or developing and incorporating open educational resources (OER) into your teaching and learning? \nJoin us for a workshop about how to design or adapt OER and other learning materials so they are more accessible for all learners. We’ll start with a demonstration of different content styles and formats\, explore how layout/format choices affect different users\, and discuss how simple choices made in the planning phase can make big improvements for the accessibility of those resources.

SUMMARY:OEW@Campus Luzern – (Wie) Unterstützen Open Educational Resources Lehr- und Lernprozesse?
DESCRIPTION:(Wie) Unterstützen Open Educational Resources Lehr- und Lernprozesse? \nDr. \nZoom-Link: \nhttps://hslu.zoom.us/j/66303149226?pwd=naYw6Uk6NRxqcXEhUbeBn9bjN4SqSi.1  \n\n(English via Google Translate): \n(How) do open educational resources support teaching and learning processes?\nDr. Magdalena Spaude\, University of Cologne \nThe quality of educational materials – in whatever form they are offered – is particularly evident in how they support the learning process and teaching. This also applies to open educational resources. Can this quality also be measured? With what result? And what kind of learning is supported here?\n\nThe article discusses relevant information from (meta-)studies and asks about the significance of these results for the design and licensing of OER.

SUMMARY:OEW@Campus Luzern – Auf dem Weg zu einer OER-Community: Einblicke\, Stolpersteine und Chancen
DESCRIPTION:Nora Bertram\, Regula Zwicky\, Universität Zürich \nWie baut man eine OER-Community auf? \nZoom-Link: \nhttps://hslu.zoom.us/j/63592301731?pwd=9AFzV6J68DLOXXr1tCSqtkDRLfnaH8.1   \n\n(English via Google Translate): \nTowards an OER community: insights\, stumbling blocks and opportunities\nNora Bertram\, Regula Zwicky\, University of Zurich\nHow do you build an OER community? This is precisely the question we address in our article – with honest insights and concrete examples from our practice. At the University of Zurich\, we have taken the first steps: published an OER guide with recommendations and general information\, used various communication channels and gained valuable experience – with initial results\, but also with challenges. \nWe report directly from our “workshop”\, share our learnings and open questions and would like to talk to you. What experiences have you had? Which strategies have proven successful? What works to win over lecturers to OER? Which channels and times are best? And how can the opportunities of OER be communicated convincingly? Let’s think together about how we can anchor OER sustainably at our universities.

SUMMARY:OEW@Campus Luzern – Offenheitskompetenzen als Grundlage für Open Education: Chancen und Umsetzung
DESCRIPTION:Dr. \nZoom-Link:\nhttps://hslu.zoom.us/j/63036301423?pwd=oSaRlHMbDU8y8zRKbDcayVXNSibu3i.1  \n\n(English via Google Translate): \nOpenness Competencies as a Basis for Open Education: Opportunities and Implementation\nDr. Ronny Röwert\, Digital Learning Campus Schleswig-Holstein and Alliance for Free Education \nA more open educational practice can be the central driver for contemporary education in a digitally influenced society – but it requires an open attitude and practice among teachers and learners. The Alliance for Free Education has developed a model of openness competencies for teachers and learners that closes this gap in existing competency frameworks. SUMMARY:WikiAfrica Hour's Offline Demos – MoodleBox and Kiwix – Offline OER
DESCRIPTION:How do we share free knowledge with people who have no stable internet? \nHow do you identify the right offline solution if you cannot see it in action first online? \nMany steps must be taken before offline solutions can benefit the people they are designed for\, some of which are quite tricky. In this OEWeek25 special\, following the January edition of WikiAfrica Hour: Offline Wikis ( https://bit.ly/WAH_Ep42_YT )\, we invite Offline Wiki experts to demonstrate their offline solution. We hope this will make one of the many steps towards offline—the decision phase—easier by showing what you should expect from this platform before you spend hours setting up the hardware\, sourcing to the right offline platform\, downloading it\, and then adding it to your hardware. \nIn the hot seat for this session is: \n✔️ Dan McGuire and Shadrach Ankrah\, members of Sopal\, who are going to discuss the combination of offline solutions MoodleBox and Kiwix \nJoin this #OEWeek conversation on Offline!

SUMMARY:Open Science: Climate Change & the Global Commons (Knowledge Equity Network)
DESCRIPTION:Join Knowledge Equity Network for an inspiring session on how commons-based approaches to Open Science can catalyse the impact of climate research\, challenge misinformation and enable solutions focussed research for a sustainable future. \nIn this session\, we’ll explore how Creative Commons licensing plays a vital role in making climate research freely accessible. By enabling researchers worldwide to access and build on this knowledge\, we open the door to innovative solutions. For example\, efforts are underway to ensure all research cited in the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) Report is openly accessible – providing a powerful tool to challenge misinformation and foster new research into climate change and its mitigations. \nWe’ll also dive into the significant role of Wikipedia\, with its 24 billion monthly page views\, as a trusted source of climate-related information. Managed by a collaborative community of editors and contributors\, Wikipedia ensures up-to-date research is available to both the public and AI systems that rely on its entries. \nIn this session\, we’ll be joined by guest speakers\, Monica Granados (Director of Open Science\, Creative Commons) and Tatjana Baleta (Wikimedia Visiting Fellow for Climate\, University of Exeter: Global Systems Institute)\, in conversation with Nick Sheppard (Open Research Advisor\, University of Leeds). \n\nIPPC Reports: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intergovernmental_Panel_on_Climate_Change#List_of_all_reports\nCreative Commons Open Climate Data Project: https://creativecommons.org/about/open-science/open-climate/\nCreative Commons Licencing: https://creativecommons.org/\nWikimedia and universities: contributing to the global commons in the Age of Disinformation: https://insights.uksg.org/articles/10.1629/uksg.509
