SUMMARY:Leading Conversations on Academic Integrity: OER for Teaching and Learning
DESCRIPTION:This virtual panel and roundtable discussion identifies ways to incorporate discipline-based knowledge-building exercises on academic integrity in post-secondary classrooms. \nThe panelists deliberate on the concept of learning culture and how to create teachable moments for student engagement. \nThe event highlights the impact of developing OERs and uses the case of a UBC Aspire (ALT-2040) Learning Transformations project\, Discipline-based Approaches to Academic Integrity\, to contextualize the discussion. The scholar-practitioners will contextualize ways to: \n\nAddress questions about accessibility and equity and how these considerations contribute to building cultures of academic integrity;\nFocus on intellectual integrity in the context of creative writing;\nDiscuss ownership\, voice and identity in academic writing as important conversation starters on academic integrity; and\nUtilize an OER to support classroom discussion on academic integrity\n\nThe panel discussion will be followed by a roundtable Q&A with student representatives about the usefulness of discussing academic integrity using the OER. \nREGISTER NOW \nPANELISTS\n\nDr. Robin Attas\nDr. Anita Chaudhuri\nDr. Lisa Grekul\nDr. Saeed Sabzian\nHafizat Sanni-Anibire\nDr. Brenda M. SUMMARY:From Concept to Classroom: Creating an Open Textbook in 12 months
DESCRIPTION:Follow the journey of our intrepid authors who aim to create an open textbook in just 12 months! Keith Heggart\, Mais Fatayer\, Shaun Bell and Rhiannon Hall share it all – the planning\, strategies\, collaboration and support models needed from multiple institutions to pull this off. You’ll also enjoy a sample chapter of this forthcoming textbook Designing Learning Experiences for Inclusivity and Diversity: Advice for Learning Designers. This project was a successful 2023 grant recipient of the CAUL OER Collective. \nSpeakers\n\nDr Keith Heggart \nDr Keith Heggart is an early career researcher with a focus on learning and instructional design\, educational technology and civics and citizenship education. He is currently exploring the way that online learning platforms can assist in the formation of active citizenship amongst Australian youth. Keith is a former high school teacher\, having worked as a school leader in Australia and overseas\, in government and non-government sectors. In addition\, he has worked as an Organiser for the Independent Education Union of Australia and as an independent Learning Designer for various organisations. \n\nDr Mais Fatayer \nDr Mais Fatayer is the Learning Experience Design Manager at the University of Technology Sydney. Her research interests focus on using technologies in learning and teaching\, open education\, learning design\, and design-based research. Her Ph.D. thesis is titled “Towards a sustainable OER module: Tapping into the cognitive surplus of student-generated content” which presents the design principles of adopting OER in learning and teaching. Following her doctoral work\, Mais has utilised her experience in teaching and research to enhance the adoption of technology in learning and teaching practices in tertiary education. \n\nDr Shaun Bell \nDr Shaun Bell is a learning designer at UTS’ Postgraduate Learning Design unit\, working with experts to co-design innovative digital learning. They hold a PhD in Literature from UNSW and have published reviews and award-winning essays on literary culture and the teaching of English in JASAL\, Southerly and TESOL Quarterly. Shaun has taught in the English Program at UNSW and has several years of experience designing learning materials for eLearning and distance education. \n\nRhiannon Hall \nRhiannon Hall writes and edits content for LX at UTS\, the digital home of the University of Technology Sydney’s LX.lab. Rhiannon works across content on all aspects of learning and teaching and has a particular interest in accessibility\, social equity and collaborating with students. She is passionate about educating the learning and teaching community on accessible practices and has co-facilitated several projects working with students as partners. Rhiannon has a Bachelor of Communication from the University of Newcastle and a Master of Cultural Studies from the University of Sydney \n

SUMMARY:The Network for Adult Learners (NVL) Digital Inclusion\, recommendations and toolkit
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop/webinar\, digital inclusion for all will be presented and discussed. \nFirst\, an overview of the Network for Adult Learners (NVL) Digital Inclusion\, in general\, will be presented\, then the research project with its five recommendations and the toolkit developed based on these recommendations will be presented. Both the recommendations and the toolkit are translated into all Nordic languages. The audience will be informed about this Nordic work and there will be discussions about the interoperability\, and transferability based on the experiences and references of the audience. \nThe Nordic Network for Adults (NVL) Digital Inclusion works to bridge the digital divide and improve adults’ understanding of digital participation. By supporting working solutions in adult education and making recommendations to decision-makers\, the network helps to ensure that the adult population in the Nordic countries has better opportunities to use digital community services\, participate in lifelong learning\, become active and critical citizens and users of technology\, and be better able to cope with increasingly digital working life. \nThe network is working to enable more adults to participate in the digital society. The network’s 5 recommendations have been translated into all Nordic languages as well as English. They will be disseminated and used as a basis for national discussions on digital participation. The network’s new toolkit\, which has been translated into all Nordic languages and English\, will be launched later this year 2024. This toolkit is based on the results of the research project and has been developed by two researchers. It is designed to help those providing digital support to discuss obstacles and barriers to digital participation with end users.

SUMMARY:Panel: Mogu li otvoreni obrazovni sadržaji unaprijediti kvalitetu nastave?
\nPanelisti: \n\nprof. dr. sc. SUMMARY:Workshop on individual reflection spaces
DESCRIPTION:Why should you reflect?\nReflection is a process of exploring and examining ourselves\, our perspectives in relation to others\, based on your experiences and expectations\, in our interaction with resources\, interactions with colleagues\, and in participating in the webinars and activities organized. \nWriting is a form of thinking and can help you in applying what you have learned in your context and to align back to your learning goals. By reflecting you will learn and develop your metacognitive skills. \nKeep a learning diary\nTo collect your thoughts along the way\, to save a memory of your learning points\, ideas\, challenges you face\, and what you enjoy you can keep a learning diary. This is similar to a pedagogical portfolio and an essential part of the open online course Open Networked Learning (ONL). \nWorkshop part of ONL\nThis workshop is part of ONL and will be a hands-on session about creating and working with your individual reflection space. You will be invited to engage in hands-on activities that cover the essentials of WordPress and similar platforms\, including: \n\nUnderstanding the (WordPress) Interface: Navigating the distinction between the frontend (what your readers see) and the backend (your control panel for creating content).\nPrivacy and Accessibility: Configuring different access and privacy levels to safeguard your reflective space while engaging with a broader audience.\nRSS Feeds Basics: Exploring the fundamentals of RSS feeds and how they can enhance your portfolio’s reach and interactivity.\nThe art and science of reflecting: A short reminder about the process of self-examination and comparing viewpoints through engagement with materials\, group interactions\, and participation in activities.\n\nPhoto by Jon Tyson on Unsplash

SUMMARY:Designing Learner Assessments Using Open Practices and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
DESCRIPTION:Approximately 2.2 million learners were enrolled in post-secondary institutions in Canada in the 2021/22 academic year (Statistics Canada\, 2023). That number is likely relatively similar for 2023/24. If each of those learners were enrolled in 3 courses per semester\, and each course required one hour of homework and assignment time per week (over 15 weeks) that’s a total of 90 million hours of potential learner co-creation of knowledge. Just in Canada\, just in one semester. Using David Wiley’s idea of reducing “throw away assignments” (Wiley\, 2013)\, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) present a fantastic opportunity to create globally relevant and experiential projects as part of post-secondary learning experiences. \nThe purpose of this interactive workshop is for participants to learn about the SDGs (if they have not yet heard of them) or refresh their knowledge (UNESCO\, n.d.)\, and explore with each other and the facilitator how to use the topics\, targets\, and indicators to develop an open assignment and rubric for learners. The exploration and design of assessments should highlight use of open educational resources (OER)\, focus on real-world examples\, be relevant to your discipline\, and include conversations with colleagues for inspiration and feedback. \nThe output of the workshop will be a participant-designed assessment (assignment details and a rubric if needed) based on one or more of the SDGs that may be explored in partnership with students in an upcoming course. \nBoxed lunches will be provided for in-person registrants. \nAbout the facilitator: Dr. Jenni Hayman is an experienced and active higher education administrator\, researcher\, and faculty member at Royal Roads University in Canada. Her expertise is in the design and delivery of online and hybrid post-secondary programs\, including partnership with faculty on the use of open educational resources\, technology in their teaching practice\, and scholarly research (scholarship of teaching and learning). Recent roles include Associate Faculty at Royal Roads; Chair\, School of Business\, Online at Conestoga College; and Dean\, Academic Excellence and Innovation at Cambrian College. Jenni provides guidance and support for faculty and administrators on emerging regional\, national\, and global education practices related to open education\, quality assurance\, program review and development\, and evidence-based teaching models. Her current research and explorations focus on the use of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as a foundation for post-secondary curriculum.

SUMMARY:OE Week Live! Developing Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Literacy: A student-led panel
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to invite you to an open online live streamed event organised by students from the MA in Digital Education within the School of Education at the University of Leeds and students from the MSc in Digital Education at the University of Edinburgh in collaboration with Open Education Global during Open Education Week 2024. \nOn the 6th of March 2024\, 4 pm UK time\, you are all warmly welcome to join us to discuss and debate methods and ideas to develop students’ Generative AI literacy. \nGenerative Artificial Intelligence (or\, for short\, GenAI) has gathered significant attention since January 2023 and discussions around its potential use in education have become widespread. Multiple research papers and articles are focusing on this topic\, while a new aspect of it is currently gaining prominence – the question of how students can become AI-literate. As we contemplate the possible revolution that AI can bring to the education field\, we should reflect more on how well-equipped students are to navigate this ever-changing terrain. \nThis event presents a chance to engage with students\, hear their voices and concerns about the use of GenAI in Higher Education and embrace their ideas to promote AI literacy. Focusing on uniting as a community of educators and students\, we aim to initiate an open\, critical\, and creative discussion on students’ GenAI literacy. \nThis event aims to expand both personal and collective perspectives and foster collaboration between educators and students in co-deciding efficient ideas to promote students’ GenAI literacy focusing on practical implications\, valuable opportunities\, and ethics concerns. Through this discussion\, all will have the opportunity to dynamically explore this crucial topic. How can we as students control and leverage GenAI\, so that it will not deceive\, prevail\, or weaken us? \nThe live streamed discussion\, scheduled to last one hour\, will be hosted by OEGlobal during Open Education Week. A student panel discussion will be held and\, subsequently\, an open session for questions and answers will be conducted to actively involve the audience in the dialogue. \nWatch live on YouTube where you can send questions and comments to the panel\, or see the recording afterward\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjJsuEZ6VtQ \nPanel members\n\nSarah Nutt (host)\, MA Student in Digital Education\, School of Education\, University of Leeds\, UK\nMaria Pavlopoulou\, MA Student in Digital Education\, School of Education\, University of Leeds\, UK\nMatt Sanders. MSc Student in Digital Education\, University of Edinburgh\, Scotland\nSamantha Watson\, MA Student in Digital Education\, School of Education\, University of Leeds\, UK\nStefanos Alifierakis\, MSc Student in Digital Education\, University of Edinburgh\, Scotland\n\nAll students\, educators and the wider public with an interest in GenAI literacy are welcome to join and engage in followup conversation in OEG Connect. \nSee the full schedule of all OEG Live Sessions https://connect.oeglobal.org/t/oe-week-live/6391
