SUMMARY:Open Education Free Book Fair
DESCRIPTION:Join UNM OER and the Friends of the Public Library for a free book giveaway! The Friends will bring a wide selection of books for UNM students to take home. \nAlong with free books\, you’ll also learn about the power of Open Educational Resources (OER): \n\nOpen Educational Resources (OER) are teaching and learning materials that anyone can freely use\, adapt\, and share. OER lower costs for students\, expand access to course materials\, and give educators the flexibility to customize content.\n\nStop by to: \n\nPick up a free book to enjoy.\n\nThere will be books in many languages to choose form: Arabic\, English\, French\, German\, Japanese\, Mandarin\, Russian\, Spanish\, and Swahili\n\n\nLearn how OER is transforming access to knowledge.\nExplore how open licensing makes it possible to reuse and remix educational and research materials.\nGet details on other Open Education Week events happening across campus.

SUMMARY:La recherche en éducation ouverte: regards croisés francophones

SUMMARY:Faculty OER Practitioner Thank You
DESCRIPTION:Scottsdale Community College’s OER Committee is sending an email to students enrolled in courses using OER and inviting them to fill out a brief form thanking their instructor for choosing to use OER in place of costly learning materials. \nThe students are asked to share what they do with the money they’d otherwise have spent on textbooks and also what they like most about having OER in their course. We then collect these responses and print up personalized thank-you placards that are placed on the faculty’s office door as a surprise for Open Education Week.

SUMMARY:From Shared Curriculum to AI Co-Creation: A Hands-On Workshop with TAI
DESCRIPTION:At OEWeek 2025\, ScholarRX explored strategies for developing open education resources (OER) in health professions education\, grounded in the idea of a shared global curricular ecosystem. This year\, we take the next step. \nWhat happens when AI becomes a collaborative partner in building and localizing open curriculum? \nThis interactive workshop invites participants to move beyond discussion and into design. Using TAI (Teaching with Artificial Intelligence)\, ScholarRx’s AI teaching assistant\, attendees will experiment with AI-supported curriculum creation in real time. While ScholarRx’s roots are in health professions education\, this workshop is designed for educators and instructional designers across higher education. \nRather than positioning AI as a tool that does the writing for you\, we frame it as a partner to help educators: \n\nClarify learning objectives\nStructure modular learning experiences\nGenerate formative questions\nTransform existing materials (e.g.\, PowerPoints\, PDFs\, lecture transcripts)into structured learning experiences\nLocalize and adapt materials for different learners\nTranslate and expand open resources responsibly\n\nParticipants will work individually or in small groups to develop a draft open learning module relevant to their own context\, with TAI as a co-creator. Participants are encouraged to bring an existing slide deck\, document\, or transcript they’d like to reimagine. \nWorkshop Outcomes \n\nBy the end of this session\, participants will:\nDevelop a draft open learning module using AI-supported instructional design\nIdentify where AI meaningfully supports\nand where it should not replace — educator expertise\nUnderstand practical considerations around licensing and attribution in AI-assisted OER development\nGain hands-on experience using TAI in a structured instructional workflow\n\n

SUMMARY:Open Metadata Exchange: Enabling OER Access Across Libraries
DESCRIPTION:The Open Metadata Exchange (OME) is a decentralized network that enables open education libraries to share and discover openly licensed resources and metadata across institutions while maintaining local control. \nBy connecting platforms through a shared\, flexible infrastructure\, OME helps reduce duplicated curatorial effort\, bridge metadata gaps\, and make high-quality Open Educational Resources more discoverable.  \nIn this session\, we will introduce  \n\nThe OME model\nDemonstrate how participating libraries connect and exchange metadata\nDiscuss how a community-governed\, decentralized approach can strengthen collaboration across the open education ecosystem.

SUMMARY:Participatory Publishing - Zine Assignments as Open Pedagogy
DESCRIPTION:Zines are a self-published medium created by collaging existing materials (e.g. images\, text\, etc.) with self-created content. Zines are published in simple photocopied and digital formats for open sharing. The practice of remixing\, revising\, and redistribution has been a part of zine culture since its creation. Zines provide a space where information authority can be questioned by building knowledge within communities regardless of the level of perceived expertise. This session will address how zine culture aligns with open pedagogical practices and how you can integrate zine-making into your course. \nParticipants at this session will be introduced to: \n\nA brief history of zine-making and open culture\nAn overview of how zines align with open pedagogical practices\nMethodologies to engage students in zine creation and culture\nResources to integrate zine-making into course assignments

DESCRIPTION:Learn how higher education institutions across New Mexico are advancing open educational resources through advocacy. Panelists from Central New Mexico Community College\, Eastern New Mexico University\, Northern New Mexico College\, Santa Fe Community College\, and the University of New Mexico will discuss what OER advocacy looks like in different institutional settings\, large and small. \nThe discussion will cover short- and long-term planning\, plus\, how to create smaller\, focused activities that can yield tangible results. Attendees will leave with concrete ideas for sustaining OER awareness\, working together with faculty\, and increasing Open Educational Practices (OEP). \nPanelists \n\nElisha Allen\, Director\, Online Strategies and Academic Technologies\, UNM\nChristine Goshorn\, Executive Director\, Innovation & Instructional Support\, CNM\nJennifer Jordan\, Principal Investigator\, NMOER; OER Librarian and Assistant Professor\, UNM\nValerie Nye\, Library Director\, SFCC\nMartin Shupla\, Library Director\, NNMC\nLaura Wight\, Director of Golden Library\, ENMU
