In this session the presenter will provide an overview of Open Educational Resources (OERs), what they are, why faculty should use them, and the issues they face in adopting OERs. A look at how using OERs affect student finances, e.g., how this is an access issue, will also be presented, along with the Montgomery College response to these challenges. A brief outline of the process faculty may take to adopt OERs will be presented and finally, some comprehensive resources will be provided to participants.
Session Outcomes:
At the end of this session participants will be able to:
* Define Open Educational Resources (OERs);
* Explain why faculty should investigate and use OERs;
* List and describe some of the challenges facing those who are interested in adopting OERs’;
* Describe the financial impact using OERs has on students;
* List and describe some of the responses that Montgomery College has implemented with the use of OERs;
* List and describe the major steps in finding and using OERs.
