This year marks 25 years since the ideals of open source software were first applied to creative works in 1998. By the end of 1999, tens of thousands of webpages were published under the Open Publication License, including textbooks, technical documentation, music, and photographs. Join David Wiley, founder of the OpenContent project and creator of the first open license for content, as he recalls some of the significant milestones that occured in the US during the first ten years (1998 - 2007) of what we now call the "open education movement."
This session is designed for people who want to learn more about the origins of the modern open education movement.
