DESCRIPTION:Join us for our special Open Education Week 2024 open café discussion featuring our special guests Dr Mags Amond (CESI)\, Dr Eamon Costello (Dublin City University)\, Dr Verena Roberts (Thompson Rivers University\, Canada) and John Hegarty (Clongowes Wood College and CESI list moderator) Moderated by Kate Molloy (CESI Co-Chair) \n  \nDr Mags Amond is a retired science teacher who has recently completed a PhD exploring TeachMeet. She is an advocate for openess in education in its many forms\, with a keen interest in how it can serve a teacher’s personal professional practice. She volunteers on the National Executive of CESI\, chairs the steering committee for Our Kids Code\, and is a member of the global Turtlestitch community. #teachmeet #tmCESI #CESIcon #OurKidsCode #turtlestitch \nDr Eamon Costello is an Associate Professor of Digital Learning in the School of STEM Education Innovation and Global Studies at the Institute of Education\, Dublin City University. He teaches a range of subjects related to digital learning\, computer science and computational thinking in education. Previously Head of the Open Education Unit in Dublin City University provider of distance and online education to 1\,000 students. He has presented and published widely on research in the area of education and educational technology and is a member of the management board of CASTeL the largest STEM Education research centre in Ireland. \nJohn Hegarty has been a teacher for 30+ years. He was our CESI representative on the NCCA LC CS development group and a phase 1 LC CS teacher. John is also on the CESI exec and manages the CESI mailing list. He is a member of the Irish Linux Users Group and promotes the use of Open Source software. Interested in micro:bit\, Pi Pico\, Snap!\, Microblocks.fun\, python\, TurtleStitch\, CESI\, Linux\, foss\, Scratch\, making stuff\, old tech bits and pieces\, \nDr Verena Roberts is a passionate online and blended K-12 and Higher Education educator\, open learning designer and consultant who completed her EdD in Learning Sciences with a focus on K-12 Open Educational Practices with the Werklund School of Education\, University of Calgary. She is currently an Instructional Designer with Thompson Rovers University (Open Learning) and an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Uof Calgary.   She is a 2018-2019 OER Research fellow and 2018 Global Open Graduate Network (#GO-GN) member. She lives in Edmonton\, Alberta\, Canada and her current research interest is figuring out Authentic Assessment using AI tools and equity in children’s soccer programs (football everywhere else in the world).

SUMMARY:CESI Open Café: Developing CESI's Digital Archive
DESCRIPTION:In our special Open Education Week 2025 Open Café\, Mags Amond and Kate Molloy from the CESI Executive will reflect on CESI’s recent Digital Repository of Ireland Community Archive Scheme Award\, and share their plans to digitise and ingest CESI’s newsletters from the 1980s to early 2010s that document professional development activities\, advancements\, events\, and research in technology in education in Ireland. \nThis session will outline the application process\, vision for the future\, and progress so far. We invite CESI members from all eras to contribute to this conversation\, and to share ephemera for the archive. It is open to all\, and we would welcome the opportunity to hear from other organisations or groups creating and/or maintaining open digital archives.
