DESCRIPTION:The Open Educator Award at DePauw University recognizes innovation and excellence in support of textbook affordability and student success. \nDePauw faculty Sarah Rowley\, Nipun Chopra and Humberto Barreto have been recognized with this award by the Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI)\, a consortium the DePauw Libraries are a member of. These and other DePauw faculty have participated in PALNI’s PALSave program\, whether that be through adopting an open textbook\, redesigning a course using free resources for students\, or authoring their own open access textbook. They will present their pedagogical experiences at this panel presentation\, which falls during Open Education Week\, an annual opportunity for sharing and learning about the latest achievements in Open Education worldwide.

DESCRIPTION:Faculty create a wide range of digital materials—articles\, syllabi\, datasets\, lecture media\, public scholarship\, and creative work—but questions about copyright\, licensing\, and “where this work belongs” often create barriers to sharing.  \nThis Open Education Week workshop at DePauw University introduces digital literacy concepts through the lens of open licenses and publishing pathways. Participants will explore how Creative Commons licenses work\, how to decide what level of openness is appropriate for different kinds of work\, and where faculty can publish or share materials—from journals and institutional repositories to open platforms and community-aligned publishing models. Designed for a liberal arts context\, the session emphasizes faculty agency\, ethical knowledge sharing\, and practical decision-making that supports teaching\, scholarship\, and public impact.
