Open Pedagogy 1: Attributes of Open Community ( video)

←Back to list of resources

This video, Open Pedagogy 1: Attributes of Open Community, is part 1 of a 3 part video series. Through a series of interviews and direct examples, a panel of teachers from Alberta describe their use of open educational resources to create their own open communities of learners, following the first four attributes of Bronwyn Hagerty’s model of open pedagogy: participatory technology; people, openness, and trust; innovation and creativity, and the connected community.

As K-12 practitioners they have daily experiences with K-12 students and thus provide concrete examples of the complexity of the 8 Attributes of Open Pedagogy. The first 4 attributes are discussed and the teachers explore how using the attributes as part of their emerging use of Open Pedagogy and OER is changing the nature of K-12 education. Their reflections and examples reinforces the shift toward constructivism and connectivism supported through the use of participatory technologies. The video highlights how OER is more than the resource but a set of teaching and learning practices.
