SUMMARY:The big debate: Is Generative AI fundamentally incompatible with Open Educational Practices?
DESCRIPTION:Generative AI is changing everything! how we teach\, how we learn\, and how we share knowledge. But where does that leave Open Educational Practices and the values of access\, equity\, and collaboration at their core? \nUTS Open Education Week 2026 puts this question centre stage with a lively\, structured debate that is rigorous and entertaining. Come curious. Leave informed!

SUMMARY:Open Wiki Assignments for Authentic Learning
DESCRIPTION:Many student assignments are written for one person\, read once\, and then never read again.  \nIn this session\, Dr. James Neill\, from the Disciple of Psychology\, University of Canberra\, will challenge that model by exploring how open wiki assignments can turn student work into useful\, open knowledge.  \nRather than producing disposable assessments\, students can curate their work using Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) sister projects such as Wikipedia\, Wikiversity\, and Wiki Commons. Student editing of one of world’s most widely used knowledge platforms helps develop critical research skills\, meta-knowledge\, and communication skills by writing for a real audience.
