Publishing OER Academic Research Using Blockchain, AI & Machine Learning

← Back to list of events
For decades, the academic publishing industry has profited billions of dollars off of universities by publishing thier faculty's research and then charging astronomical subscription fees to their libraries to access their own research. In 2017, one of the largest academic publishers extracted 36.7 percent margins--which was more profitable than Apple, Google/Alphabet, or Microsoft that same year. Just as OER has benefited students, instructors, administrators, industry leaders, and educational communities across the globe, there are some new disruptions just around the corner that will turn these age-old business models upside down. The takeaway from this presentation is that all types of knowledge which favors humanity must not be blocked, but open and widely disseminated.
