FOSTWOM open toolkit: design a gender-balanced MOOC

← Back to list of events
In this webinar, Paola Corti and Valeria Baudo ( Politecnico di Milano, Italy), Ana Moura Santos (Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon, Portugal) and Carlos Turro Ribalta (Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain) are going to present a gender-balance toolkit for MOOC design, created within an EU funded project, FOSTWOM, focused on supporting females to take part in STEM careers. We are aware that updating a MOOC (in order to make it fit new points of attention, and gender is just one of them) is expensive and comes after the development of other requested prioritized projects, our focus in the Toolkit is the design phase: we address content experts, instructional and visual designers when they design and prepare storyboards for new STEM MOOCs to be better gender-balanced. The toolkit, thus, contains very easy-to-use checklists which are still open to suggestions and improvements. Our aim is to discuss with participants the present version of the checklists and collect their suggestions for further improvements. Being that we are also developing CC licensed contents all along the project lifetime, including photo libraries of women at work in technical positions, the idea is that each result, also the smallest outcome achievable, will contribute to enriching Open Libraries of new, gender-balanced contents and reusable, adaptable tools.
