10,000 Washington College Students Have Spoken: Affordable Cost for Course Materials

←Back to list of resources
What do Washington’s 34 community and technical college students believe is a reasonable cost for class materials? How does the cost of the materials influence students' academic practices? What recommendations do students have for improving textbook affordability? To provide insights into these questions, the Washington community and technical college student association initiated and drove the survey creation and distribution process. However, it soon turned into a true system-wide effort. Many system groups, councils, commissions put in enormous efforts to ensure that our students' voice from all 34 campuses will be reflected in the final results. These groups rallied and connected with student government to light the fire and helped the total number of survey responses reach 10,050. A summary of the study is available in slides online (https://tinyurl.com/wa-student-survey). The finding is also available via interactive data map (https://tinyurl.com/lowcost-survey).
