Benefits of OER for K-12 Learning

←Back to list of resources
This podcast considers the benefits of open educational resources and what they can contribute to the work of professional educators and to the learning of students, including cost savings, the improvement and increased flexibility and relevance of content, and the enhancement of the teacher’s role as content expert and professional. Collectively these are substantial changes to an educational delivery model that has been established through an unchallenged reliance upon publishers supplying the majority of educational content and provide an impetus for OER and Open Pedagogy to influence and reshape K-12 education. The contributors include researchers and practitioners of OER and include Beatriz De Los Arcos, Royce Kimmons, Rory McGreal, and Sarah Weston. In addition to the podcast, a full transcript in an editable text file is also available. Podcasts and text files require less band width which allows users with connectivity issues or financial costs to more easily access this content and thus allow a broader potential audience than videos alone.
