Siemens Stiftung “Media Portal for STEM teaching”

←Back to list of resources
The Siemens Stiftung Media Portal is an international educational platform featuring over 3,500 quality-controlled teaching materials on science and technology. It was relaunched in May 2018 to focus exclusively on open educational resources (OER) and is now used by over 45,000 people in 120 countries.

Teachers can discover a wide range of real-world-oriented teaching materials for all grade levels and school types – from images, videos, worksheets, tests, and experiments to interactive exercises and simulations. The contents focus on health, energy, and the environment and are meticulously indexed to support the use of contemporary teaching and learning methods. The student area also offers interactive educational media with experiments, puzzles, and how-to videos. The media are available in English, German, and Spanish under the open license CC BY-SA 4.0 international.

Vision of a globally connected community

Siemens Stiftung wants to help more people around the world gain free and open access to high-quality STEM education. The decision for an open educational platform was strongly influenced by the educational potential of OER: As classrooms become increasingly diverse, it’s helpful if teachers can adapt available materials to the unique educational needs and potential of their students. Teachers and students can even work collaboratively in adapting the media. This is an effective approach that fosters creative processes and allows innovative ideas to blossom.

Siemens Stiftung is committed to ensuring that Media Portal users enjoy high-quality specialized educational content under open licensing with all copyrights secured. The vision for the future is a globally connected community in which users of various countries talk about educational content, create their own media, and share their experiences and results with one another. The first important step in this direction is to integrate the Media Portal with various educational partners around the world.
