Celebrated Open Education Week 2025: Creative Commons Licensing in Focus
Sun March 2, 2025 - Fri March 7, 2025

Dr. S. R. Lasker Library, East West University celebrated Open Education Week 2025 from March 3-7. Open Education Week is an annual event launched in 2012 by Open Education Global, aimed at promoting open education and its positive impact on teaching and learning. The week features achievements and innovative contributions to open education from around the world, providing educators, practitioners, and students with opportunities to deepen their understanding of open educational practices.
To mark the occasion, Dr. S. R. Lasker Library actively promoted various aspects of open education practices on its social media channels, as it did the previous year.
A highlight of the celebration was the Creative Commons Engagement Zone, held on March 5, 2025, from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the library. This interactive session provided an opportunity for students to engage with Bhutanese interns from the Department of Information Studies who shared their insights on CC licensing. The session covered essential topics such as legally using, sharing, and remixing educational materials, understanding content creators’ rights, and selecting the most suitable Creative Commons licenses for various types of work.
The event encouraged students to actively contribute to the open education movement, fostering an inclusive and knowledge sharing academic environment. To further engage students, the library organized a quiz competition, where eight students emerged as winners and received prizes for their outstanding participation. A brochure on CC licensing was also distributed to attendees in the engagement zone. The celebration of Open Education Week 2025 at Dr. S. R. Lasker Library reinforced the library’s commitment to advocating for open knowledge and promoting the adoption of OER within the academic community.
