Graduate students face many challenges during their academic journey and often lack formal training in professional and learning skills. To address these challenges and support student success, our diverse, multi-institutional team designed a self-directed course to equip graduate students with core skills, empower them with tools and strategies, and foster an inclusive, equitable, and healthy environment. This course includes five modules: mentorship, strategic learning, project management, academic resilience, and navigating difficult conversations (including power dynamics).
Presentation attendees will: gain insights into the values and principles that underlie the course design, receive the findings of our multi-institutional, multi-discipline course pilot, with recommendations for incorporating the course in a variety of settings, and receive the results of an autoethnographic analysis of the team’s process, offering a framework that they may apply in their own context.
