Keynote – Open Hearts: Empowering Educators with Open Resources and Practices

Mon March 2, 2026 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm GMT

For Open Education Week San Diego Community College District brings you this keynote talk by Brenna Clarke Gray, Assistant Professor, Learning Design and Innovation and Coordinator, Educational Technologies at Thompson Rivers University.

Session Description

I don’t know about you, but in this particular moment — politically, economically, culturally — I’ve never felt more sharply the distinction between my values as an educator and the realities of the world outside my classroom. To celebrate Open Education Week, then, let’s all take a moment to find hope in the possibilities and promises of open education. In this session, through a little bit of theoretical framing and a lot of practical examples, we’ll discuss how open resources and open practices can empower us as educators to build a more equitable, accessible, and engaging learning experience for our students and for those far beyond our classroom walls. Join me as we open our hearts and share the possibilities of open education in a moment when we all really need to remember how far our good work can spread.
