AggieOpen Invited Speaker – Katie Healey
Tue March 3, 2026 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm GMT

Join us for this year’s AggieOpen Invited Speaker talk! Katie Healey is the founder of the A11Y Project and a scholar of disability history. Grounded in a disability justice framework, her work centers on advancing inclusive practices in higher education and challenging ableist structures in academia.
Through the A11Y Project sponsored by the University of California Office of the President, Healey supports more than 120 instructors across all 10 UC campuses in meeting Digital Accessibility standards. Launched in August, the course addresses designing for diverse learning needs, creating accessible course content and multimedia, and navigating legal and ethical dimensions of accessibility.
Healey also hosts the Disability Daily Podcast, where she highlights influential figures and pivotal moments in disability history, bringing historical insight and a justice-centered perspective to contemporary accessibility work. Her talk for this year’s Open Education Week will focus on the potential of Open Education resources and practices—such as open syllabi, participatory course design, renewable assignments, and multimodal resources—to create more inclusive learning environments.
This event is free to attend and will be hosted on Zoom. Register to attend!
