No-Cost Textbooks and AI: How AI is Powering Free and Open Course Materials, a Lecture and Discussion by David Wiley

Tue March 3, 2026 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm GMT

As generative AI increasingly impacts higher education, long-standing assumptions about textbooks, course materials, and access to knowledge are being reexamined.

In this lecture and discussion, David Wiley, an internationally recognized leader in Open Educational Resources, explores how generative AI intersects with Open Educational Resources in the context of the college classroom. He examines both the opportunities and tensions of AI-powered course materials and what they mean for affordability, pedagogical innovation, and the future of learning.

Whether you’re new to OER, experimenting with AI in your teaching, or just interested in the idea of no-cost course materials, this session offers a timely and grounded perspective on where free and open learning materials may be headed next.

Students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors are welcome to attend. Food and refreshments will be provided.

Hosted by Rollins College Olin Library. Lecture funded by the Thomas P. Johnson Grant Fund.
